Poster Ancillary for Hilltop farm
Emma Goldie and Emma Hardy created this.
This is the billboard poster for our soap. As a group some of us took photos whilst the others planned the layout. We used a green screen to take photos of some characters so it was easier to add in a backgroud using photo shop. The 'E4' logo and banner was created by using 'Keynote'.

Question 3 - Audience and Feedback - My first rough cut
Our first rough cut
Audience feedback
This was our first ever rough cut of our product. On receiving audience feedback from our peers (who we would consider in our target demographic) we were happy to here they were impressed with our varied shot types and loud dialogue. Another feature they enjoyed was the clear narrative because it was easy to get what was happening and they thought the title cards helped this.
Viewers comment: "I really like your video, the only problem is that the music jumps suddenly which makes it look unprofessional" "I think florences voice is too powerful and it takes away from some of the dialougue" "I can tell what is happening in your trailer, and that is always a good thing!"
Improvements
A feature our audience thought could be improved was the vocals in our song. Unfortunately Florence (the singer) has a voice which stands out over some of the actors dialogue. An improvement which was suggested with this was using an instrumental version of the song instead so we still have the same tone to our video but without the singer. Because we were so partial to the narrative the song provided such as the opening line of "regrets collide like old friends" another audience suggestion was adding a title card with the lyric line on. This would start the trailer nicely and we hope to involve this in our remade trailer.
An improvement suggestion which we received in our feedback would be to match the time cards up to the beats of the music more, because some of them are slightly off. The titles cards matching the music is a common convention of soap trailers so this is something we hope to achieve in our edited video.
In the opening the music (0.13) it has been edited poorly and you can tell that it has cut out. It was difficult to find a place to cut out some of the verse but more time has to be spent to improve this so our trailer is more professional.
I think the audience feedback has helped a lot because it has gave us an outside view on what our demographic thinks about our trailer. We have gained some good constructive criticism which will help his to achieve a better trailer

Our video after audience feedback
QUESTION 3 - Audience and feedback
This is our new video after recieving audience feedback. We have now made the improvment which we thought would benefit the video from the critism from the feedback. We changed the track to an instrumental version so you could hear the dialouge better over, because of this we added a title card which meant we could still gain narrative from the song. Hopefully most of our target audience would reconise the song because it is the charts and popular so they would understand the title card.

Audience feedback
Some quotes from the viewers "I would definatly watch this after the trailer" "the instrumental music is too loud, I prefered the old trailer" "I don't think instrumental works as well" "The shot angles are very good, I would definatly watch this programme "
Improvements
Unfortunatly using the instrumental versoin of the song didn't seem very popular so we hope to change this back in the next edit of our video, next time we will have to be careful with the editing so it matches up and there are no sudden cuts in the song. Also because we have vocals in the song to create a narrative again there won't be any need for the opening title card. Because Florences voice is so distinctive we will turn down the music and some of the dialogue up so it stands out more agaisnt the track.
The audience feedback has helped because it has let us understand more about trial and error. To make a product perfect you have to try different things, even if they don't work, to make it perfect.

QUESTION 3 - Audience and Feedback for Final video
This our final product and me and Tiff are very happy with it. We have changed the music back to the vocal version but made sure to make it was quieter so the dialouge stands out more agaisnt it. We made the cut in the song smoother where it changes at 0.13 and I now think this is much more smoother and hardly noticable. We have also taken more care to match the title cards to the beats of the music.
Some of the viewers said : "I really really like your trailer, you can see a clear story line" "You can tell you have worked hard to get different angle shots" "The music goes really well, I love this song, it makes me want to watch the programme"

The song used in our trailer
We chose to use this song because we thought it fitted the narrative to our trailer very well. It has a heavy tone and beat along the whole song and this represents the heavy emotions involved in our product. The first line is "regrets collide like old friends" which we have chosen to fit into when she reads her pregnancy test, this reflects how the result of the test is something she regrets. The music also turns very upbeat towards the end of our product and this helps to create a climax and tension. I had to edit some of the music and remove a verse from the beginning to make it go more upbeat sooner, I think this benefited the video.

New Dallas Trailor
I Had a look at other soap trailers so I could reconised the common conventions which I need to include in mine. Looking at this dallas trailer I noticed:
Misc En Scen
-glamorous = rich characters
-The American dream
-big houses
-expensive costumes
-Perfect hair and make-up
-Implications
Non – Diegetic
Scores in scenes to create atmosphere tells audiences how to read the scenes.
-Cheesy
-Dramatic
-Exaggerated
-Reality becomes unrealistic
The trailor teases us by giving quick clips of action from each characters.
We have the narration of "All those fights over ewing oil in SouthFork..." A very brief explanation of what happened in the last seasons.
They are using younge new attractive characters as well as old ones to attract two different audiences (the past viewers and the new ones.)
The title slides narrates to the viewers what is happening.
TWO SOURCES OF LIGHT TO DIPLAY GOOD CHARACTERS AND BAD. You see JR in dark lights because he is a shady character - he is known from the last season for being bad. Where as Bobbi has some of the main dailogue in the trailor sounding heroic which matches up to just past of being good.
The use of the oringinal theme tune.

Bob and the gang
Another practise stop-animation.
Bob and the gang
This is the second animation I made and this taught me how the right lighting really effects a piece of work. I think the light I worked in was too dark which forced there to be to much flash which effected the picture quality. This helped to realise that in my soap trailer I will be creating how essential it is to have the correct lighting. I also learnt how much time goes into a media product and this developed my understanding that I have to put dedication into a product to make it high quality instead of having a low quality rushed product.

The Tardis is Crashing! - Stop animation
The tardis is crashing
This is the first stop animation I created. I studied a clip from Doctor Who and tried to re-creat it by cuting shapes out and moving them
along a piece of paper. I would take a picture of each movement I made. I learnt just how little you have to move each image at a time to make it look most effective.
